Neurosurgery in Depth

Description

The whole course will deal with entire clinical cases, including primary examination (video), further investigations including diagnostic imaging procedures, surgery (video), follow up and possible complications (video). In this manner we will illustrate the variety of treatment options for neurosurgical patients in a practical way.

Target Group:

The wetlab section of the course will be organised in small groups and allows the participants the opportunity to develop their neurosurgical skills on cadavers with two main goals:
1. To improve their own surgical skills by dealing with the challenges encountered during conventional surgery in practice.
2. To perform new and more complex procedures

Seminar Objective:

The main focus of the course will be on neurosurgery and neurosurgical patients and will be delivered in a case-based manner, allowing interactive and in-depth discussions on all topics. Within case discussions, participants will be taught the necessary theoretical knowledge to understand and to perform high quality neurosurgery.
Practicals are divided in video-based case presentations and theory. A neurosurgical wetlab is available for each case discussed. Decompression and stabilization techniques will be taught during the course.
Two days will be dedicated to the cervical spine, two to the thoracolumbar/lumbar spine and one to surgical approaches to the brain. Standard procedures (hemilaminectomy, ventral slot, dorsal laminectomy) will only be demonstrated if necessary on request of the participants.
The definitive program will be available approximately two weeks before course begins.
